Recently, the volunteer team from GF Securities (Hong Kong) visited the ‘Fu Hong Society,’ where they worked hand in hand with individuals with intellectual disabilities to create eco-friendly leather cup sleeves, weaving together an unforgettable memory.
The public generally believes that individuals with intellectual disabilities need protection and lack the ability to live independently in the community. This perception may stem from misunderstandings about intellectual disabilities, and individuals with these disabilities, along with their families, often lack confidence and support for community living.
The ‘Fu Hong Society’ operates workshops and comprehensive vocational rehabilitation service centers to encourage individuals with intellectual disabilities to establish self-determined lifestyles, allowing them to engage in various types of work, thereby developing their interests and skills while earning income and building confidence. The main products currently offered by the ‘Fu Hong Society’ include leather goods, such as key pouches and coffee cup sleeves, as well as handmade scented mosquito-repellent soaps.
“Making coffee cup sleeves with individuals with disabilities allowed me to fully appreciate their optimistic and positive attitude towards life,” said Sunny Sun from the PE department. “Through the process of completing the projects together, I not only gained friendship and joy, but also a deeper understanding of the meaning and value of life.”
The volunteer team from GF Securities (Hong Kong) consistently advocates for a community atmosphere filled with inclusivity and love. We firmly believe that every moment we spent together can help individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families feel the warmth and acceptance of our society, making their community lives more confident and vibrant.
